Dr. Jinhai Zheng works as a professor of Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering in State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering, Hohai University. His has great scientific achievements in the basic theory, simulating methods study and engineering applications of estuary and coastal dynamics. He is the co-developer of the WABED wave model, a directional spectral wave model based on the wave action balance equation with diffraction, reflection, and wave-current interaction capabilities. Successful validations resulted in its inclusion in the Coastal Inlets Research Program’s Coastal Modelling System (named as CMS-wave). He led more than 40 major projects including the International Cooperation Project, General Project and Youth Project of National Nature Science Foundation of China, Special Public Service Sectors of Water Resources Research, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Key Project, Doctoral Foundation of Education and so on. He has published over 90 papers in the domestic and international academic journals and conferences, in which 54 papers are indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. He has won 4 provincial and ministry rewards in his scientific research achievements, registered 3 copyrights of computer software in the National Copyright Administration and applied for 3 national patents, providing innovative basic theories of the coastal dynamics and advanced numerical methods for the feasibility demonstration of the Yangtze Estuary Deepwater Channel regulation, the Pearl River Delta Waterway Network development, the southeast coast harbor constructions and other key projects as well as the integrated management and protection study of the estuaries and coasts. Under his guide, three of his masters have won the Excellent Master Thesis of Jiangsu Province. He is the main teacher of the undergraduate course Coastal Dynamics, which has won the National Excellent Course and Bilingual Education Demonstrative Curriculum. He won Fok Ying Tong Education Foundation Award for the Tenths Young Teachers of Universities, Baogang Excellent Teacher Award, Twelfth Youth Science and Technology Award of Jiangsu Province. He has also been selected for the Supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, Excepts with Special Government Allowance by State Council and so on. He serves as the Dean of College of Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering, the Chairman of Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering major of University Water Resources Discipline Education Steering Committee, as well as the Associate Editor for The Open Civil Engineering Journal.
