Dr. GONG is specialized in the fields of hydraulic engineering and coastal morphodynamics. He started PhD research on 3-D baroclinic hydrodynamics and salt intrusion of estuarine areas. During the period 2002~2006 working in Taihu Basin Authority of M.W.R., he carried out research on hydrodynamic numerical modeling of river networks for flood control planning. Since 2006, he works for Hohai University as associate professor, where he was and is involved in several projects sponsored by the Chinese National Natural Science Foundation and the State Key Development Program of Basic Research of China. These projects focus on long-term morphology evolution mechanism of tidal inlet and tidal flat, variation of hydrodynamics in response to climate change and anthropogenic activities. Moreover, he spent one year as visiting scholar in Delft University of Technology during 2010~2011. Dr. Gong has published more than 20 papers in journals and conference proceedings, in which five papers are indexed by EI and ISTP. He won grade-I and grade-II provincial and ministry prizes for progress in science and technology in 2010 and 2005, respectively.
