Prof. Yan Yi-Xin (1949-), born in Shanghai. He graduated from the University of Florida with a PhD degree in Coastal and Ocean Engineering. His major research interest is estuarine coastal and near-shore engineering and hydrodynamics. He is specialized in harbour planning, coastal hydrodynamics and numerical simulation, and beach evolution in estuary and costal areas. He has undertaken more than 50 projects funded by National Nature Foundation, Key Projects of the Ministry of Communications, Huo Yingdong Young Teachers Fund and Doctors Degree Supporting Fund, etc., and has made significant achievements in the radiation sand mount study, waterway renovation in the estuary of Yangtze River, and harbour development feasibility study. He won the third award of the Jiangsu Provincial Technology Advancement in 1993, and the first award of Technology Advancement of the Ministry of Communications in 1999. Due to his outstanding contribution to harbour and coastal engineering, he has been granted the government special subsidiary since 1996. He has won the title "the Young academic leader of the Ministry of Water Resources" in 1997, "the best teacher of the Ministry of Water Resources " in 1999, the excellent graduate student supervisor of Jiangsu Province" in 2000. He has published about 100 papers, and co-authored 3 books.
