Prof. Cao Shu-You (1945-), born in Dazhou, Sichuan province. He is a member of National Natural Science Foundation of China discipline appraisal group. He had got the master degree in engineering in China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), PhD in the University of Birmingham and did his post-doc research in University of Birmingham. He won second prize of Ministry of Water Resources, Channing sediment scientific paper award, third prize of the Ministry of Education. His main research interests include: hydraulics, river engineering, sediment transport, water and soil conservation. He has been in charge or take part in a number of National Natural Science Foundation project and national research projects, including some important projects that the National Science Foundation and the Ministry of Water Resources co-funded like "Formation Mechanism of sediment disaster and the prevention research," " Research on the key control technology of waterway of mountain river," "Research on sediment information and decision support system of the three gorges project", "The industrialization research of sediment mathematical model," and so on. He published two monographs, translated one book, edited one book, and published over 100 academic articles in prestigious international publications of hydraulic engineering sector. The research group he is in has developed the CRS-1 mathematical model of sediment, it has listed into to the sediment design criterion of China's power industry (DL/T5089-1999) which has widely used in Southwest sediment project that has made great social and economic benefits.
