On December 20, the first sub-project of Jiangsu 908 Project on the horizontal and vertical surveying control network, accomplished by Hydro-Lab passed the examination. Zhang Changkuan, the president of HoHai university, and Shen Yi, the deputy director of Jiangsu Ocean and Fishery Department, participated in the evaluation meeting. The meeting was presided by Prof. Wang Yigang (the dean of the Ocean College of Hohai University and vice leader of second sub-project of 908). Wu Bingyou (the stationmaster of Jiangsu quality supervision station for mapping productions) and other experts composed the specialists group. Wang Weiping (leader of this sub-project) presented a report about this project, which has later been evaluated and accepted by the specialists successfully.
Project 908 is an abbreviation of the project ‘the comprehensive investigation and evaluation on offshore and ocean of China’, which is by far the most all-around survey on the basic data of offshore and ocean in China and enjoys the largest investment in its history. This project aims at guaranteeing the sustainable utilization of ocean resources and keeping the healthy and fast development of ocean economy, which is of great significance to the overall exploration of China’s ocean and coastal resources. Project 908 is carried out by the ocean authorities in coastal provinces separately. Jiangsu has taken 14 themes, of which 3 have been led by LHWHE, namely as, Theme 2 the survey of coastal zone and island, Theme 5 the survey and evaluation of the radial sandbanks of southern yellow sea, Theme 6 the environmental quality evaluation on the offshore of Jiangsu, with a total funding of 20.39 million RMB. The current subject is a part of Theme 2 and is the first one that has been examined.
