The second meeting of the first session of Academic Committee was held in the state key laboratory of Hydrology and Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering on December 17, 2006 at Hehai University. The academic committee meeting was presided by Academician Wang Jiyang. Professor Yan Yixin (vice-president of Hohai University) and professor Liu Heng(vice president of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute) addressed to thank members guiding and supporting the development of the laboratory. Professor Peng Shizhang (director of the laboratory) and Professor Liu Ling (deputy director of the laboratory) gave reports on the acceptance and the application of the laboratory n and outlined the future work of the laboratory and summarized the opening research fund in 2006.

 

The committee members seriously checked the application report, and conducted profound discussions. They agreed that in the period of construction, the laboratory has fully filled with their tasks, and gained achievements in team-building, organizational management, experimental platform, open sharing resources and training of personnel. According to the national strategy, the trends of scientific development frontier, and in close connection with theory, much research achievements have been gained in the support of major projects, "973" "863", the Natural Science Fund and other major water conservancy projects. We got good momentum in the development of hydrology and water resources and hydraulic engineering, and were prepared well for the acceptance.

     

The committee members affirmed the achievements of opening fund in 2004 and 2005, and also proposed suggestions to the existing problems. According to the guideline of fund management, they examined and approved the research projects of opening fund in 2006 and suggested that the research projects which are closely related to the research and development of laboratory should be financially supported.

Academic leaders from Hohai University, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Division of Science and Technology, and Director of the laboratory attended the meeting. They hold communications and discussions on issues related to the laboratory and put forward many positive suggestions on the development of the laboratory in the future.
