From Nov. 8^th to16^th, Professor Song Zhiyao，Wang Ruyun,and Doctor Tong Chaofeng, who work at the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources And Hydraulic Engineering, followed the delegation of mainland China to attend the Third Sino-German Joint Symposium on Coastal and Oceanic Engineering in Cheng Kung University in south Taiwan, China. The attendants from mainland with a total number of over 20 were from Hohai University, Dalian Technologic Institute, Tianjin University, Chinese Ocean University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. Besides, about 20 scholars from Taiwan, China and experts from universities of Germany attended the symposium. During the symposium, Professor Song Zhiyao、Wang Ruyun,and Doctor Tong Chaofeng separately made presentations, and held further discussions with other attendants on the academic topics of coastal and estuarine dynamics, wave models, drift sand and coast evolution, coastal and offshore structures, coastal environment and sustainable development.

The Sino-German Joint Symposium on Coastal and Oceanic Engineering was set up in 2002, and the first conference was held in Rostock University in Germany, the second in Hohai University in 2004, the coming conference will be held in Germany in 2008.
