In 2006, from December 9 to December 10, the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering (Hohai University, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute) and the National University of Singaporejointly jointly organized the "First International Symposium on Larger Asian Rivers: Fluvial-Coastal Zone Interactions.” Professor Chen Xiqing, chief expert in the state key lab presided this conference. Prof. Yan Yixin (the vice-president of Hohai University) participated in the opening ceremony and addressed welcoming speech. Scholars and researches from Britain, Finland, Singapore, Taiwan Province, and mainland China carried out academic exchanges on the main topics in the following aspects: climate change and the impact of human activities on the sediment discharge; Construction of the reservoir.
