The XXIV General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) was held in Perugia, Itlay from July 2nd to July 13th 2007. The main theme of this assembly is "Earth - our changing planet". Over 70 delegates coming from China attended the assembly. Prof Zhang Jianyun, director of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute and Chairman of Chinese National Committee for IAHS, Prof. Ren Liliang, vice director of the Hydro-Lab and vice chairman of Chinese National Committee for IAHS, and associate Prof. Wang Wen, vice director of the Hydro-Lab, gave oral presentations at the assembly. The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) is a non-governmental, scientific organization, established in 1919. IUGG encompasses seven semi-autonomous International Associations that address different disciplines of earth science, including International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS). During the period of the XXIV General Assembly, Prof. Ren Liliang is selected to act as the vice chairman of the International Water Resources System Association(ICWRS) (2007-2011). IUGG holds General Assemblies at four-year intervals. The next assembly will be held in Melbourne, Australia, in 2011.
