Southern china suffered from serious 60- to 70-year drought this year. Many regions, such as areas around Poyang Lake - the largest freshwater lake in china, Dongting Lake - the second largest lake, and Hong Lake, the seventh largest lake, are severely affected. Water body shrank sharply, and the ecological environment and agricultural production were badly hurt. Hydro-lab director professor Peng Shizhang led Hohai university experts on water conservation, flood prevention and water ecological restoration to investigate the drought affected regions on June 2, 2011. Their visits were supported by local authorities. They exchanged their views with local authorities and practitioners about drought development and countermeasures for drought relief.
