On September 18th, the kick-off meeting for the project lakes with variational relationship between lakes and rivers and the ecological effects of bottomland and wetland”, which is a sub-project of 973 project the evolution of relationship between rivers and lakes through the middle reaches of Yangtze River and environmental and ecological effects and regulation” was held at Poyang Lake Hydrology gauging station. The sub-project is led by Professor Li Ling, who is a Thousand-Talent-Plan Professor and one of academic leaders of Hydro-Lab. The sub-project is the fifth sub-project of the 973 project which is approved in August 2011. Experts from Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, and Beijing Forestry University attended the meeting. By establishing the response relationship between tropical aquatic organism and hydrodynamics in Poyang lake, the fifth subject led by Professor Li Ling will reveal the impact mechanism of zooplankton, benthic community structure in lakes and evolution of submerged vegetation communities caused by the interaction between lakes and rivers; determine the distribution pattern of lake wetlands and the ecological community succession, adaptive behaviour and ecological effects under changing relationship between lakes and rivers; and investigate the interrelationship between distribution patterns of rare migratory bird habitat and hydrological regime changes.
