After the nomination of Chinese Commission on Irrigation & Drainage and the evaluation of International Commission on Irrigation & Drainage (ICID), Prof. Peng Shizhang won the ICID WATSAVEAWARD -TECHNOLOGY award of 2012 at the 63rd meeting of executive members of ICID in Australia recently . He is the only winner over the world in 2012, and only 3 persons in China so far won the award. ICID WATSAVEAWARD -TECHNOLOGY award was set up in 1997, granted to the individuals or teams in the field of water saving technology. Prof. Peng has conducted the research on water saving, efficient water utilization, new drainage techniques and ecological effects of farmlands for nearly 30 years. He has published over 200 papers, won two second class and one third class National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology, four first class provincial Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology. He won the ICID WATSAVEAWARD -TECHNOLOGY award because of his contribution to the development of controlled irrigation for rice growth, and the water saving techniques for rice irrigation in different areas.
