From October 30 to 31, 2016, the Youth Symposium on Marine Engineering in 2016 was hosted by Dalian University of Technology, with the assist of Ludong University, in Dalian, China. Headed by Professor Zheng Jinhai, four fixed-term researchers from the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering (Hydro-Lab) and three postdoctoral research fellows attended the symposium, communicating and sharing with the domestic peer experts together on the hot issues and latest research of coastal engineering about which the public is always concerned.

In the symposium, Professor Zheng Jinhai gave a report on the basic fundamental problems of the coral reef coastal dynamics.
