On March 7, 2017, Professor Liu Chaoqun from the University of Texas paid a visit to the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering (Hydro-Lab) and gave a special report entitled “DNS Study on Relation between Vorticity and Vortex Identification”.
Professor Liu introduced his research achievements on the turbulence theory and vortex structure simulation. He first presented the difference between vorticity and vortex, and then proposed the theoretical method of vortex identification—Omega Method, which could effectively work out the previous division in the theory of vortex identification. Additionally, he applied DNA and LES to study the transition and turbulent flow, and carried on the thorough introduction of the theoretical research on the generation, maintainence, development and interaction of the turbulent flow after the transition. At last, the present teachers and students had a hot discussion with Professor Liu Chaoqun.
