Coastal comprehensive management and protection team attended the Eighth Chinese-German Joint Symposium on Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering

 [ Time:2016/9/30 9:17:31]

From September 19 to 23, 2016, the coastal comprehensive management and protection team from the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering (Hydro-Lab) attended the Eighth Chinese-German Joint Symposium on Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering in Qingdao, China, which included two parallel sessions-Coastal Engineering and Disaster Prevention, and Ocean Engineering and New Energy. Professor Yan Yixin delivered an opening speech as the organizer of the symposium. Professor Zheng Jinhai and Associated Professor Zhang Chi presided over the whole symposium and one parallel session, respectively. Besides, Associated Professor Tao Aifeng participated in some contests as the invited panel reviewer. Moreover, six graduate students also delivered presentations in different parallel sessions, separately. Through the academic communication, further discussions on the difficult and hot topics of the coastal and ocean engineering were undertaken between the Chinese and German representatives, so as to inspire new ideas and insights, and to create more opportunities for further exchange and cooperation.

Under the proposal and organization of the Academician Yan Kai, the Sino-German Symposium on Hydrological and Coastal Engineering was created by East China Institute of Water Conservancy in 1984, which is Hohai University today. In 1987, it was hosted by University of Hannover, and 10 delegates of our university had attended that symposium. In 2000, the vice-president of Hohai University Professor Yan Yixin, the vice-president of National Cheng Kung University Professor Ou Shanhui and Professor Kohlhase from University of Rostock signed the memorandum of understanding together, and decided to host the symposium in Germany, China and Taiwan alternately every two years. Since 2002, the symposium has been hosted by University of Rostock, Hohai University and National Cheng Kung University, respectively. And in 2008, it was renamed as Sino-German Symposium on Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering. Additionally, the next symposium will be organized by National Cheng Kung University in 2018.
